Greetings to any Coatbridge Docherty 's out there. Canada.
I worked on Starks ice cream van around that scheme in 1968 for George Boag, my driver was called Wallace Campbell
Loved watching this again. Brings back so many happy memories.
Glad you still like it Jim I think it will be around for a long time to come. Got an expensive drone so maybe more to come
I'm glad to fine this again as on my other phone that broke and nice to see when the shops were 3 on each side and my dad was from Wye Crescent with you should his sister stayed there and 1 just down where the guy was out other not far from summer Lee 1 on lomond Road 1 in Tennant drive haven been over 30yrs and looks a lot has change as my dad came to Fife from Townhead Coatbridge

Ok I was in one of the first families to be housed in Townhead after the war from Turner st slapup Dudley Drive was my my home and it’s still in the family The wee fort was originally an anti aircraft gun emplacement jurying the war Then used by British rail as a rail siding The wee wids and the unknown were my my back garden and Dudley Drive was our fitba pitch as no one had a car Long before Townhead primary was built Tay street was my school Great place to grow up in the 50s and 60s great time to grow up in happy memories running riot in these streets every door open and a piece n jam and a poke o chips was always gladly given in Dudley Drive
Lovely trip down memory lane. Grew up in Derwent Dr. However, I don’t recognize the back lane the I grow up in. Spent my childhood with friends playing in these lanes with only short fences. We always played in each other’s gardens. Cant do that now it seems, without being closed in.
Your correct the back lane is a total mess, if you look at Dochart drive, it looks just like the old days. Also as i said in the video the back lane has 2 or 3 sets of large iron gates
I went to St Bartholomew’s in the 1960. What Miss Mellon could do with a leather strap on the palm of your hands. Beyond painful. It’s amazing that we never told our parents about her nastiness and no school member would challenge her.
Not to mention her cut down pointer, my fingers were numb for days. Wicked old witch
Just saw where my dad's sister lived in wye crescent change from the last time I was there in the 80's thanks
Your very welcome, glad you liked it.
@R mc glinchey thank you the guy with the bin my dad's sister stayed across the road and 2nd and 3rd sister stayed in 15 wye crescent another on the road leading to the shops as you looked fron the grass near 15
@@Thomas-yk2vg I know where you are, i had a long chat with the guy with the bin, sorry to see that lane now closed, used it most days going to school, long long time ago
@R mc glinchey there were 2 1 going up to the shops and othere down to the road. When young used to go in the 70's and when my dad's sister said you want some ginger was wondering what? I then know the meant juice and they say I loaf of bread I sometimes say that and being a fiber I sometimes call it a half loaf lol
@@Dmamcg1 I think my dad's younger sister if memory serves me still stays in 8 Tantallon Drive
My dad live there in wye crescent before he moved to fife
Thanks for this series, left coatbridge 50yrs ago. Liz Morgan, my first girlfriend lived on lomond Rd and I used to to go visit my aunt Mary reilly on dudley drive using the bus temimus terminus. I used to have to run around all those streets looking for Joe Hegarty's van of an early evening. Anybody remember Joe? Would love one on espieside if you ever get round to it, born and raised in espieside crescent till I was 4.great work and thanks for the memories.
Hi Peter i remember Joe well, he worked with the Coop before going it alone. he moved to Mount Vernon to live. After leaving the van he opened a shop across from St Pat`s Chapel on St John Street, my mother worked in the shop, hope this helps. I am thinking about doing Espieside and Gartsherrie to finish the trilogy off.
Joe was a great guy, always gave my mother tick till Friday,my Thursday night quest was always for a bag of tatties,a tin of beans,a loaf and 10 capstan..lol
I also remember hoping right back in time a guy called Nicky Tambourini who went about on a bile selling candy apples and the first ice cream van I remember in the street was a guy called Ian Muir, maybe the Walls van was first not too sure
can u mind rugby posts on the right hand side of gartgile Road at the Townhead end it always seemed strange because it was right next to the tarry burn
What was the white fort? growing up know one seemed to know for sure growing up 🤔 also what was old grettas building originally?
Hi Scott, well nobody seems to know what the Old Fort was, it was just 1 large piece of concrete that we all played in and called it the Old Fort.Old Grettas building, you lost me can you please expand...Ricky
I'm not sure who but when I was a kid I got told it was either a sheep dip but it seems to big for that or some kind of gunnery defence during ww2 but there was never any definitive answer
Old grettas well that's what we called it as kids it was in between the bridge at reigart an coltswood kennels it had architecture almost like an old church someone I know who works on the railway took pictures of it a while back an was asking about it iv always wondered about townheads history
All my family lived in lomond Rd the clares the burnes the finnigans Bella finnigan was my great gran
Hi Alana, if i am thinking correct i knew a Finnigan family they lived near the roundabout on Lomond Road...Ricky
What a great clip, my friend lived in Coatbridge I went to visit him and his family from England, it was my first time in Scotland. Lovely people, I had a GREAT time.
Glad you enjoyed the 2 movies Mike
Hi Mike I love Townhead that's why I did the 2 videos so people who left there many years ago can look back and remember the good times...Rick
Absolutely brilliant video. Brings back so many memories. All my family left Coatbridge many, many years ago. Thank you for filming.
Hi Joseph, I still think part 1 was better I lived on that side so I am slightly biased. Well nobody else was bothered. about Townhead so I took it on and am glad I did, it has brought a lot of memories to a lot of people, so was worth all the effort. Glad you liked it.
Both were brilliant videos. Thanks 👍 for recording. It's nice to show our children and their children.
@@josephkane829 Hi Joseph. Are you from Tantallon Drive, and do you have a brother called Eddy short for Edward? If yes, please answer, I was a pal of him over 50 years ago! Thanks, Billy Ruby originally from Wye Crescent!
Hi Billy, that's right, my brother is Edward (Eddie). He lives in Hertfordshire now. Our family moved to Hertfordshire in the mid 80s. Edward is retired now. Small world eh.
@@josephkane829 Hi Joseph, thank you for your reply! I have been living in Isleworth Middlesex since 1970, Eddy came down for a week's holiday to see me one year later! That was the last I heard of him! I would love to contact him, does he have an email address or mobile no.? I don't have any social media accounts! Can you please pass on my request and answer via this comment section, if he says yes, then I will give my number and email address! Thanking you in advance, Billy Ruby. 😀👍
Absolutely brilliant video. Brings back so many memories and a few tears. All of my family left Coatbridge many, many years ago. Thank you for filming.
Aye no wonder they left

Deary deary me, you bams never give up. Sad sad people get a life
Fantastic video. Brought back many a memory of growing there in the 60s. St Bartholomews, the shops in Leven Rd and the Tarry Burn. Thanks
Hi David, was your brother Billy?
Hi David. From an old neighbour that lived a few doors up. Your sis was my best mate.
Your right Owen it will always be my
Kathie, I think Townhead Part 1 was a lot better than Part 2, maybe because I spent most of my time on that side of Townhead.
Thanks I'll check that out then. Whereabouts did you live in Townhead and are you still there?
Hi, my house was in Derwent Drive.Right behind the houses looking into Dee Street.
I am living down at the bottom of Calder Street in a place named John Smith Gardens
@@Dmamcg1 That's good, and a nice place to live. Looking forward to your next video.
I knew George well,I remember your house top left hand side of Dee street.
George wasn't happy as Dee St. was the only street to be made into flats, so he eventually decanted to Tantallon Drive.
This was so Lovely, I grew up in Dee St. Townhead and this has brought back many fond memories. Thank you so much.
Hi, did you live next to the Patrick’s. I am sure they lived in Dee street, many moons ago.
@@Dmamcg1 I am the youngest of The Patricks!
@@AuntieKathiesRescueTails God amazing who you will meet here. Did you see the first part of Townhead?
@@Dmamcg1 Not yet, I'll watch it later for a bit more nostalgia! Thank you
@@Dmamcg1 Did you know any of my brothers or sister?
Hi Tammi, will think about doing a video of Espieside and Gartsherrie to finish the Townhead Trilogy. Will let you know
OK...that age old question comes up again... R we 'espiesiders' part of townhead or not? I MEan, I thought mark miller was from Blairhill... Surely u can include espieside as part of townhead.. Also, it'd be gr8 2 know some of the history about the place..The only bit of info I have is the name + what it means... please do an espieside 1
Mark Miller was from Thornton Street
@@marybell4847 thank u... some1 telt me years ago he was fae blairhill..x
Love it... but ...the music? Come on...
i can remember Elders, my mum getting her messages on the tick book, (had to be paid by Friday/Saturday)
Stewarts Grocers next to John O'Neils and then Fruit shop.
Thanks for the info Pat
Great work Ricky , camera work & music spot on before and after shots brilliant . Well done for all the hard work.👏👏👏.

Hi Angus,Eric lived 2 doors away from me at 39 Derwent Drive. He has done very well
I knew I knew the Name McGlinchey, also Eddie McGuiness, the Weirs and the Hillys ,frank and Tuck .i now live in Australia>Fond memories of sledging down the Hill to the terminus!! laughed that much ,got scurvy!! also mick cox, frank DiNardo, What have they done to Back lane of Derwent drive??? 71,was brand new and it took ages ,with my father, to build up the Garden! Clothes Poles with End of Water Pipe ,then Planted out ,Silver Britch Fence, a Rowan Tree don.t ask where he got them!! Veggies everywhere and Feature Walled Rectangle(heavy )
@@angusmcphail943 I remember the Cox family they used to live in Derwent Drive but moved to either Dochart or Dudley Drive. I knew the Hilley family as well, and also the Dinardo family i think they lived in Dochart Drive and the mum was called Rosie.
First pictures you can see my gran’s house on the corner before you went up the hill. She lived at 92 Doune Terrasse. Annie Bowden.
Well done Ricky. You have collated a fabulous nostalgic revisit to a time most have forgotten. Thank you for sharing this with us and hope it brought back happy memories and not sad. Thank you. On another note, for your Part II, why don't you show a video of the railway line from Townhead, the Container Base, through to where RB Tennants were, then out past Carnbroe to the cottage which backs onto the A8. That's an interesting journey. M
Thanks for the nice comment
I lived in that cottage, it is called Orchard Farm Cottages
The white fort was a sheep dipping station. 👌🏼
Great Video Ricky! I stayed in Teviot St for 30 year's, I think you might know me? The phone box scene, if you look closely at the brick wall behind the phone box. There was a lane here that took you to the back lane at Derwent Drive. Also, the road from the White Gates to Glenboig, I recall this being called the red ash road? Thanks Kevin McCormick
number 7 by any chance?
@@Dmamcg1 lol, yes Number 7!
Grew up in the 60s Lomond Road. Brings back so many memory's as a child. Family name was Curtis
I seem to remember the Curtis family,I think you were on Derwent Drive back lane.was 1 of your family called Jamie?.
Hi , you dont know how lucky you are to be able to look back at videos like this, i came or should i say proudly i come from T ownhead . My family stayed in dochart drive , my names not important but i remember you davy !,!, Swiggy, the second best musician to come from Townhead, how could you possibly beat "Rab and the Toalets" or even brian barry and his band at the tower bar ? Parker Browwn , big Tosh, wee mc cormick , ricky on drums and the legend Harry Harris on guitar , not forgetting Peter Grant on keyboard. Anyway , wullie rutherford , your next door neighbour is still a legend , if you needed a wing man, Frank Fennessey , led Zep freak, and body builder if you needed a drinking partner! He was the man. Then there was T ommy Mackie, he d shag yer granny, but shed think he was doing her a favour😂. I hope youre doing well Swig, B.L.
It's a changed place .n people can say what they want .But watching all those streets just brought back so many memories .love townhead always .
